If you are looking for a 2-in-1 to extend the life of your baby products, here is a good one for you. Lifefactory makes some of my favorite bottles of all time. If you own either the Lifefactory glass bottle with the silicone sleeves in any size or the Lifefactory stainless steel bottle you can easily transition it into a sippy cup. How is that for eco-friendly?

For the glass bottle, you can purchase a hard sippy spout that is made from Phthalate and BPA-free plastic and made in Poland. While this is not my favorite option and over the years, these sippy tops have been very much hit or miss for my children, it is an economical option if you want to extend the life of your Lifefactory glass bottle. It comes in a few different colors, such as ocean, raspberry, kale, grape, and white.

If you have the Lifefactory Stainless Steel Bottle you can choose between a wide mouth hard spout also made from Phthalate and BPA-free plastic in Poland or you can choose a soft silicone top . The soft silicone top is a much better option. I really wish that LIfefactory would make a silicone option for the glass bottle as well.

Mason Bottle Silicone Squeeze

I love, love, love this silicone squeeze cup from Mason Bottle. It is made from the softest food-grade silicone and has a removable silicone straw. The straw has a unique x cut to prevent leaks and spills and because of the wide opening, it is also the perfect cup for your little one’s purees and smoothies as well.

It is so easy to clean and because it is a really pretty translucent blue you can easily see how much of your little one’s drink is left. Oh, and it is made in the USA.

The best part about Mason Bottle sippy cups and bottles is that all of the pieces are interchangeable and the pieces can all be bought separately. So if you already own the stainless steel baby bottle or the glass baby bottle you can purchase the silicone straws separately.

Also, if you have a collection of wide-mouth mason jars you can purchase the plastic ring and straws separately to make your own DIY sippy cup.

The cup is made from high-quality glass and has a shock-absorbing base and outer shell to protect the glass from breaking. If the glass does happen to break there is a safety outlet in the base that will remain liquid to alert you to the breakage.

The other really cool thing about Green Sprouts is that all of their plastic is made from plant-based materials. Eliminating the worry about toxic chemicals leaching into your baby’s drink.

The Glass Sip and Straw Cup comes in 6 different colors green, aqua, cobalt, gray, pink, and yellow. It holds 5 ounces and is designed for 6 months and up.

Boon Snug Silicone Sippy Lids

I recently bought these Boon Silicone Lids for my 14-month-old when he was refusing all of the other sippy cups I wanted to give him. The Best Non-Toxic Sippy Cup Alternatives

Sippy cups are not necessary at all. If you decide that you want to skip the sippy cup step altogether and just move right into an open cup here are some really good non-toxic options from some of my favorite brands.

Bamboo Bamboo Baby Sippy Cup

Just like the Bamboo Bamboo Glass Jar Straw Cup, this Bamboo Bamboo Baby Sippy Cup is high quality, non-toxic, eco-friendly and so stinkin’ cute. It is an open cup that is made from solid bamboo, Making it virtually indestructible, To add to the fun, it comes with a removable silicone edge that is super smooth to make it comfortable for your baby or toddler to drink from it.

The silicone edge comes in eight different colors: blue, green, pink, yellow, cherry, grey, orange, and lilac. This sweet little cup can hold 5 ounces and is only 3 inches high so it is perfect for little hands to hold and is a great option for transitioning your child to a glass cup.

Ola Baby Silicone Training Cup

The Olababy Silicone Training Cup is identical to their straw cup with the only exception being that it doesn’t come with the straw and lid. It is simply just the food-grade silicone cup portion.

Haakaa Silicone Training Cup

If you want to avoid the sippy cup and jump right into a cup this Haakaa silicone training cup is a great choice. It is made from 100% food-grade silicone and has perfectly placed handles. It is one solid piece and it is virtually unbreakable.

My favorite feature is the notch on the top of the cup for your little one’s nose so he or she is able to drink comfortably without their nose hitting the cup. At 6 ounces it is also small enough for little hands to hold it easily.

It comes in 6 different colors: rust, bluestone, blush, gray, red, or clear. We have it in gray, which actually looks more purple to me in person, but if I had it to do over again I would get it in clear so that when helping my son drink from it I can see where his drink is and if it is close to getting into his mouth or not.

FAQs ABout Sippy Cups

non-toxic straw cups for toddlers

Here are some of the most commonly asked questions about sippy cups and sippy cup use.

When can my baby transition to a sippy cup?

Most babies are ready to start using a sippy cup or a straw cup around 9 months of age. Of course, this can vary and depends on your child and their needs. But the sooner that you can make that transition the better. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends having your baby completely transitioned between 12 and 24 months of age. 1

When should my child stop using a sippy cup?

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that toddlers stop using a sippy cup between 2 and 3 years of age. By then, most children will have already naturally transitioned to an open cup or a trainer cup. It is important to transition to an open cup as soon as your child shows signs of being ready to encourage your child’s mouth to develop properly and prevent tooth decay. The sooner your toddler begins to use a regular cup the better. 2

Which is better for my baby: sippy cups or straw sippy cups?

First, let’s talk about the differences between the two cups. I, like many people, use the term sippy cup for both a standard sippy cup as well as a sippy straw cup because they both serve the same purpose for my young children.

Technically, a sippy cup is a toddler cup that has a lid with a spout at the one edge. They are very similar to bottles, with the exception of where the spout is located. This type of lid encourages your child to learn how to tip a cup up in order to eventually move on to a regular cup or a transitional cup.

A straw cup is a cup with a lid that comes with a straw in it instead of a sippy lid with a spout. This encourages your child to learn to suck up liquids through the straw, strengthening your child’s mouth muscles and making it better for mouth development.

As far as which is better, is hard to say. As long as both options are used only for a year or two and then you transition your child to a big kids cup then either option is fine. You just want your little one drinking from a regular cup by the time they are between 2 or 3 years old. So it basically comes down to which option works best for your child and for your situation.

baby with eco-friendly and non-toxic sippy cup

There are so many eco-friendly, non-toxic sippy, straw, and open cup options that will help your toddler easily transition from breast or bottle perfectly. Whether you want silicone, glass, or stainless steel there is definitely something on this huge list of choices that your toddler is bound to love.
